Job Overview:
The QA Tester will be responsible for validating new features, identifying regressions, investigating bugs, and helping ensure that releases are stable and ready for customers.
Because the company operates across macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS, the ideal candidate is comfortable moving between different operating systems and understanding the unique behaviors, permissions, limitations, and user experiences of each.
This person will work closely with software engineers, product leadership, customer support, and other members of the team. They should be comfortable taking ownership of a feature from the point it enters QA through final release validation.
The role will primarily involve manual and exploratory QA, although technical skills and experience with automation, scripting, databases, or software development are highly valuable.
Tasks required:
Product and Feature Testing
- Test new features and product changes across Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS.
- Verify that new functionality meets product requirements and behaves correctly across supported devices, operating system versions, and configurations.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, exploratory, and release testing.
- Develop thoughtful test plans for new features rather than relying solely on developer-provided acceptance criteria.
- Identify edge cases, unusual workflows, and scenarios that may not have been considered during development.
- Reproduce customer-reported issues and determine the specific conditions required to trigger them.
- Validate bug fixes and ensure that changes do not introduce regressions elsewhere in the product.
- Test installation, upgrading, uninstalling, permissions, authentication, account states, device configuration, and other application lifecycle scenarios.
- Help evaluate release readiness and identify issues that should block or delay a production release.
Bug Investigation and Reporting
- Investigate unexpected product behavior methodically and gather enough information to help engineers diagnose the underlying issue.
- Create detailed, reproducible bug reports in Jira.
- Clearly document steps to reproduce, expected behavior, actual behavior, device and operating system
- information, relevant account or application state, frequency and severity, and screenshots, videos, logs, or other diagnostic information when appropriate.
- Distinguish between isolated device issues, configuration problems, platform-specific behavior, and genuine product defects.
- Work directly with engineers when deeper investigation is required.
- Retest issues after fixes are delivered and verify that the original problem is fully resolved.
Quality Ownership
- Develop a strong understanding of product architecture, major workflows, and platform-specific functionality.
- Become familiar with high-risk areas of the product and proactively test them when related systems change.
- Help maintain and improve regression test coverage.
- Identify weaknesses or gaps in existing QA procedures and recommend improvements.
- Help establish repeatable QA processes as the company and engineering organization grow.
- Participate in product and engineering discussions when QA input can help identify risks before development begins.
- Advocate for product quality while balancing severity, customer impact, engineering effort, and release timelines.
- Help define appropriate severity and priority levels for defects.
Cross-Functional Communication
- Communicate clearly and professionally with engineers, product managers, support staff, and company leadership.
- Participate in discussions through tools such as Slack and Jira.
- Ask good questions when requirements or expected behavior are unclear.
- Translate complex technical issues into clear explanations for both technical and non-technical team members.
- Communicate potential release risks early rather than waiting until the end of a testing cycle.
- Work effectively in a remote environment where much of the team’s communication happens asynchronously and in writing.
Qualifications:
- Several years of professional software QA or software testing experience, preferably including responsibility for complex applications or multiple platforms.
- Strong manual and exploratory testing skills.
- Experience independently designing test scenarios and test plans.
- Strong ability to identify edge cases and think beyond the standard “happy path.”
- Experience testing software across multiple operating systems and device types.
- The technical ability and willingness to work regularly with macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Experience reproducing difficult or intermittent software defects.
- Experience writing detailed, actionable bug reports.
- Strong familiarity with issue-tracking and collaboration tools such as Jira and Slack.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple features, bugs, and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently without requiring detailed instructions for every testing task.
- Good judgment regarding the severity and customer impact of software defects.
Technical Expectations
- Reviewing application or system logs.
- Using browser developer tools.
- Inspecting network requests.
- Understanding API requests and responses.
- Testing APIs directly when appropriate.
- Querying or reviewing data in a database.
- Understanding basic application architecture.
- Reading simple code well enough to assist with troubleshooting.
- Using command-line tools when necessary.
- Understanding the difference between frontend, backend, application, database, and infrastructure-related issues.

- Familiarity with Git and source-control workflows.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks.
- Ability to write simple automated tests or scripts.
- Experience with mobile application testing.
- Experience testing applications that interact deeply with operating-system permissions, background services,
- networking, VPNs, device management, accessibility APIs, Screen Time, or similar system-level functionality.
- Experience working with remote engineering teams.
- Experience in a SaaS or subscription software company.
- Experience improving or establishing QA processes within a growing engineering organization.
